Join Me in Giving Back

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year because it reminds me that all is not a given and that we should be thankful for the good things that come our way, big and small.  This November I have even more to be thankful for (keep reading to find out why), so I hope you will join me this month in giving back: all through November, Zēlos will be donating $1 for every item purchased on our site to the Esther Marie Hatton Center for Women, which ensures homeless women in Cincinnati have access to basic human needs such as shelter, food, emergency clothing items, basic toiletries, and safety.  I’ve volunteered in the past with this Women’s Center, run by Shelterhouse Cincinnati, and recognize the need they fill.  You can learn more about them on their site.

I’ve always loved Thanksgiving as the ultimate American holiday, yet one where, just like in Greece, food and family and friends are in the spotlight.  It’s also a time when I start reflecting on the year that’s about to end, when I can truly give thanks for all the good that has happened.  I have so much to be thankful for.  It’s been more than six months since my Zēlos adventure has started, and the support, not just of friends and family, but of so many different and interesting people I’ve met, has been overwhelming. I can’t believe that our authentic Greek artisans have attracted the attention of visitors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Armed Forces in Europe & the Pacific!   Running a business is never easy, and the challenges are still plenty, but I am truly thankful.  So I feel it’s time to start giving back, not just to my beloved Greece but also a little closer to home, and I hope you will help me.

I come from a family of strong, inspiring women, as I’ve written about in my first blog post.  And I’ve met many amazing women here and in Greece through Zēlos.  But I also know how fragile that good fortune can be and that is why I would like us all to give back a little and support the women of Shelterhouse.

Thank you for helping me help them.
