Citrus Handmade Bergamot Spoon Sweet

Bergamot is a unique citrus fruit which many know from the oil that infuses Earl Grey tea. It is said that bergamot is the result of a hybrid of lemon and bitter orange, which may explain its unique bittersweet flavor. This traditional dessert is inspired by the unique citrus fruits brought centuries ago to the island of Chios by the Venetians. Handmade with pieces of bergamot peel floating in a simple syrup of sugar, lemon juice and water - no preservatives or additives at all, just simple island sweetness. 

“Spoon Sweets” are that quintessentially Greek accompaniment to coffee, as you’re welcomed to someone’s home with a spoonful on a small plate. The bergamot version has a sparkling bright color and crunchy texture that’s even better with tea, iced or hot…but don’t just save it for visitors, share it with all your family and friends!

We love this Spoon Sweet as a traditional dessert or as a topping for cheesecake, flan, panna cotta, yogurt parfaits, ice cream sundaes. Add it in your chia pudding, or your morning oatmeal, toast or bagel. Makes for a gourmet topping of crepes, pancakes and muffins.
