Quince has been cultivated in Greece since ancient times, when it was considered a fertility symbol. Related to pears and apples, quince is less common in the US but the trees can be found throughout the Greek countryside and the preserved fruit is one of the more traditional spoon sweets. Ours is traditionally handmade on the island of Chios, with pieces of cooked fruit floating in an all-natural syrup of sugar and lemon juice - no preservatives or additives at all, just simple island sweetness.
“Spoon Sweets” are that quintessentially Greek accompaniment to coffee, as you’re welcomed to someone’s home with a spoonful on a small plate. The quince version has a lovely appearance…but don’t just save it for visitors, share it with all your family and friends!
Importantly, there are no preservatives, additives, artificial flavors nor colorants.

Quince is an excellent accompaniment to your cheeseboard, and this spoon sweet with its whole pieces makes a nice alternative to the Spanish membrillo (quince paste). We also love Spoon Sweets as a topping for cheesecake, flan, panna cotta, yogurt parfaits. Need a recipe? Here is a favorite one for a panna cotta topped with Citrus' Chian tangerine spoon sweet, which you can make with any of the Citrus Handmade Spoon Sweets, or try Maria’s favorite flourless chocolate cake - Spoon Sweets make for a for a deliciously special topping for it! You can also use the syrup as a unique base for shrubs and to add a sweet surprise to your prosecco or cocktail. And, of course, you can even enjoy it the traditional Greek way, as a spoonful of sweet luxury with your afternoon coffee or tea.
