LIVING WITH ZELOS

For those who have been part of our community for some time, you know of my deep connection to design and my profound appreciation for the arts. Art has been a constant and true companion throughout my life as a global nomad. It provided a reliable escape when I moved to a new place where I didn't have friends yet or wasn't fluent in the language. For me, art has its own language, communicating with us in unique ways, touching and challenging our lives and perceptions. It has been a companion in my quest to belong somewhere, which led me to get involved with the docent community of the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, where I lived for 16 years. I also spearheaded a project for the museum—one that involved food and details of which I share in another blog—and eventually became a member of the board.
In recent years, I've had the opportunity to support the arts in my motherland through DEO, an art organization in Chios. This project has been incredibly fulfilling, and I couldn't be prouder of the work we are doing on the island. I believe that art touches and changes lives in ways that other activities cannot. I have witnessed how art can help young minds think critically and express themselves, and how it challenges us as adults. The DEO project in Chios plays a pivotal role in achieving this in a small community that otherwise lacks such opportunities. It also draws interest from visitors to the island and sparks great conversations.
Through this project, I realized that there are other organizations doing similar work on other islands, and of course, countless exhibitions and art events taking place in Athens. Here at Zelos, we decided it would be worth writing a blog to share the most interesting and must-visit art events of the Greek summer with you. If you're traveling to Greece and have an interest in art, here is a list of events that we think you should visit. Enjoy!

There have been countless new spaces and island residencies set up in the Greek islands over the last few years, a testament to Greece's blossoming art scene. We love seeing curators, from all over Greece, return to the islands of their parents and grandparents and work towards bringing contemporary art closer to the local communities.
Hydra, in particular, has long been as an art destination with its bustling community of artists (check out our book guide to read all about it!) and landmark art institutions like the DESTE Foundation.
