As a designer by training, I was intrigued when I came across an Instagram account called Hellenic Aesthetic. Greek design has so much to offer and I wondered just what this was all about. What's the story behind your brand?

Hellenic Aesthetic was born out of my love and nostalgia for Greece. It’s where I’ve spent my summers since I was six years old, and I wanted to share the things I love about Greece in the medium of fashion and design. When I started Hellenic Aesthetic there were no other Greek fashion shops in America. I’m very proud of the fact that it was the first one.

Can you tell us about your philosophy, your goals for your business?

Things of quality have no fear of time. Greek design and aesthetics are timeless and I want to celebrate, promote and preserve them.

What was/is the biggest challenge you've faced as a woman entrepreneur?

The jewelry industry in Greece (and in general) is a man’s world. When I meet with new manufacturers, often I get asked, “where is your father? Is this your father’s business?” The manufacturers I work with now all respect and value doing business with me. They go above and beyond to help me and are incredibly supportive.

How have people reacted to Hellenic Aesthetic?

I get a great feel for this when people come into our store. It’s really so cool to see their excitement when they visit for the first time. So often our visitors and online shoppers have said, “thank you for making us feel closer to Greece”.
