Giving Back This Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s the most beautiful time of the year for many people and certainly the most busy and crazy for us here at Zelos! This week is the busiest sale week of the year in the US and we've also been deep in preparing your gift boxes, taking special care to make them beautiful and pack them safely, to add your good wishes and to show all our love through food. 

Still, in the midst of all this buying and packing, it's nice to take advantage of the various opportunities to give back this season.  We often donate gift boxes to different fundraisers and a particular favorite of mine, one that I'm so looking forward to as a break from the hustle and bustle of these days, is the annual concert:nova holiday event. Concert:nova is a music ensemble that was founded in 2007 by a group of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra musicians. They seek unusual collaborations and alternative venues to perform and create memorable experiences. I first got to know about them through a good friend of mine, Aimée, who introduced me to the group through, what else, a dinner! At some point Aimée, one of the musicians, Ixi, and I daydreamed about creating experiences that would include music, visual art and food.

Our daydreaming never became reality (yet!) but it created a special place in my heart for that unusual group. When they asked me last year to participate in their fundraiser, my answer was of course a resounding yes and this year we will be participating again. Their FIESTA event will take place on December 8 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum. It will be a fun evening, complete with a holiday dessert competition themed around chocolate. Who knows, maybe we will participate and win with our flourless chocolate cake with a Chian tangerine twist!

We're also in the last days of our very own annual fundraiser for the Esther Marie Hatton Center for Women. If you don’t know it already, we are giving $1 per item sold on our site throughout the month of November to give thanks for our good fortune and for our steady growth as a small business. So all those gift boxes you have us packing are allowing us to make an even bigger donation, as each item in the box will count towards our goal.
