Traveling to Greece: Alonissos, a Monachus Monachus habitat

Traveling to Greece: Alonissos, a Monachus Monachus habitat

This photo is exactly what summer in Greece means! Turquoise waters, green trees, and a harbor with little boats -we call them καΐκια- and taverns that will serve you fresh fish cooked with extra virgin olive oil, handmade pasta, and cold local white wine.

Get ready to spot the cutest Monachus Monachus seals!

Alonissos preserves one of the largest marine parks in Europe (2.265km2) that has a significant effect on the sustainable development of the region and provides the perfect home for numerous species of marine animals like dolphins and seals. Have you ever heard of the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus Monachus)?

Well, this kind and friendly species lives in Alonissos and tries really hard not to go extinct. Only 600 individuals remain in the world, but fortunately, sportfishing and hunting are prohibited and Alonissos' residents (who are only 2000!), do their best to keep them safe. If you find yourself on a boat, look around you and you will see them escorting you! You will be amazed by their cuteness.

If you ever visit Greece, visit this magnificent island in Sporades called Alonissos. You will have the best time of your life.
