Back to school: 5 easy snacks your kids will love

Back to school always reminds me of when my kids were younger, and packing healthy snacks was part of our daily routine. Even though mine aren’t in school anymore, I still love whipping up these easy homemade treats. I’ve pulled together 5 of my favorite recipes from the blog that are perfect for lunchboxes or after-school snacks – simple, wholesome, and loved by the whole family.

1. Fried cheese pie with goat cheese

We recently interviewed Maria Mouriki of Mouriki Greek Premium Honey and we had to ask her about her favorite Greek food. Not surprisingly, it was one of her grandmother's recipes that came up and it involved a type of Greek pie with cheese. Try this cheesy hot snack with your own kids!

2. Easy banana bread with spices and orange zest

A delicious spiced banana bread using Sparoza's Cooking Blend with Spices & Orange Zest adding a warm flavor to the sweet, moist banana bread. Add a drizzle of fragrant Greek honey and it makes for a fantastic breakfast treat or afternoon snack.

3. Spinach and Feta pinwheels

One of the most iconic Greek food combinations is spinach and feta, which most people experience in the famous Greek “spanakopita”. The real spinach pie is a bit complicated and time-consuming to make, although totally worth it(!), but thanks to Elli & Manos’ Spinach and Feta Greek Flavor Burst, you can enjoy a similar taste in this easy recipe. These pinwheels are a fun snack but you can also make them into little shells to avoid any mess.

4. Light and fluffy olive oil bundt cake

This is the cake my grandmother used to make every week of the year - a Mediterranean take on the classic Bundt cake which substitutes butter with extra virgin olive oil. The addition of olive oil and Greek yogurt makes this extra fluffy and much healthier!

5. Greek meatballs - keftedakia

Give the recipe a try and think about doubling the batch if you've got a hungry crowd to feed. You can always freeze the leftover meatballs or simmer them in your favorite Elli & Manos tomato-based Greek Flavor Burst

Bonus snack #1: our favorite fig rolls from Kumilio

Kumilio fig rolls are the perfect snack to fuel busy school days! Easy to pack and delicious on-the-go, they're a great addition to any lunchbox.

Bonus snack #2: Elli & Manos dips with fresh carrots and cucumbers

If your kids like to experiment with flavors, then the Elli & Manos Greek Flavor Bursts are amazing as dips. They are also free of artificial flavors, colorants or preservatives! You can serve them with crudités, toasted pita bread or layered on a bagel.
