Igoumenitsa, traveling tips from Zelos Greek Artisan

Igoumenitsa, where Greece & Italy come together

Igoumenitsa is the most important port in north-western Greece, with ships traveling between Italy & the Greek mainland throughout the year. Comfortable ferry boats make a southern European trip a breeze...but you'd better book early to get a comfy cabin for your Greco-Italian road trip!

Igoumenitsa Greece

Igoumenitsa is also the gateway to popular Greek beach destinations like Sivota and Parga. Thanks to the newly completed Ionian Highway and speedy Egnatia Highway, my home town of Thessaloniki is finally well-connected to these beautiful, quiet beaches. You can easily catch a boat to the nearby islands of Paxos and Antipaxos (and meet many Italians!).

Shrimp saganaki with tomato and feta cheese

Do explore the beaches of Perdika and Parga, where you can enjoy water sports & diving. Hikers will love the trails outside of Igoumentisa...and make sure to enjoy the local seafood and shrimp dishes with lots of  good, cold, local white wine!

Have you explored this hidden corner of north-western Greece? Let me know your favorite places and I'd love to share them with our community!

Buy the best shrimp saganaki seasoning

Surrounded by water and with hundreds of islands, Greece has been blessed with fresh fish for millennia and Greek cooks have always used the fresh herbs of the land to flavor it. Our ingredients: rosemary, thyme, marjoram, peppercorns, lemongrass, coriander seeds, lemon-ginger, fennel seeds, natural sea salt.
